About Bitcoin (BTC)
Bitcoin (BTC) is a decentralized digital currency that enables peer-to-peer transactions without intermediaries like banks or payment processors. Created in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin introduced the concept of blockchain technology — a distributed public ledger that records all transactions permanently and transparently.
Bitcoin operates on a proof-of-work consensus mechanism secured by the SHA-256 cryptographic algorithm. With a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins and programmed halving events every four years, Bitcoin is designed as a deflationary digital asset. These properties have earned it the nickname digital gold and made it the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
Bitcoin can be bought on centralized and decentralized exchanges, stored in hardware or software wallets, and used for payments, remittances, or as a long-term store of value. The network is maintained by thousands of nodes worldwide, making it resistant to censorship and single points of failure.
